Corrugated Cardboard
(Icelandic: Bylgjupappi)
How to sort
In this category you can sort cardboard boxes and pizza boxes. Corrugated cardboard can be distinguished from other types of cardboard/carton by the waves in the edges. It may be printed on and plastic coated.
Note
No food, plastic or other unwanted things may end up in the sorted container. This would decrease the resale price of the cardboard.
All other cartons such as cerial boxes, shoe boxes, egg-trays and other food-containers do not fall under this category. They should be sorted seperately as paper and non-corrugated cardboard packaging see here
Where to bring it
Smaller loads - max 2 m3: The nearest recycling centres.
Bigger loads: Receiving plant at Gufunes.
The recycling
Corrugated cardboard is compressed and baled in SORPA's Baling & Sorting Plant at Gufunes before it's exported to Sweden where it's recycled. The end product is new cardboard or cartons. It is also used as the outer layer in the production of insulation board that are made of plaster.
